Microsoft has removed a compatibility hold that prevented some AutoCAD users from installing the Windows 11 2024 Update due to launch and crash issues.
As Redmond explained when it acknowledged this known issue last month, it affects all AutoCAD 2022 versions, but other AutoCAD releases are not impacted.
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, all versions of Autodesk AutoCAD 2022 might not open on some devices. Users have reported encountering an error when launching the application,” Microsoft said.
“All other versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT are working as expected, such as AutoCAD 2023, 2024, and 2025, and will not prevent devices from installing Windows 11, version 24H2.”
IT admins can find the issue under “safeguard ID: 56211213” in Windows Update for Business reports to check if any endpoints in their environment are affected. Microsoft also advised users not to manually update impacted PCs using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the Media Creation Tool until the known issue is resolved.
Autodesk has resolved this issue in the AutoCAD 2022.1.4 S182.0.0 or higher updates released since Friday. Affected users can check the AutoCAD version installed from the software’s “About” Box.
After installing the AutoCAD 2022 update that addresses this known issue, it may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to be offered via Windows Update. However, you can also restart your computer to expedite this process and update as soon as possible.
In recent weeks, Redmond released a BIOS update that fixed blue screen issues on some ASUS devices to remove another compatibility hold blocking Windows 11 24H2 upgrades. It also lifted a safeguard hold preventing PCs with Auto HDR enabled from installing the Windows 11 2024 Update due to gaming issues.
Other upgrade blocks prompted by incompatible configurations or software have also been applied to devices with Dirac audio improvement software, Asphalt 8 (Airborne), integrated cameras, or the Easy Anti-Cheat and Safe Exam Browser applications.
